The Cedars of God are one of the last groves of the cedar forests that once covered Mount Lebanon. They grow above the town of Bsharri, at the head of the Qadisha Valley, and together the valley and the grove are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Bsharri is also where the writer Gibran Khalil Gibran was born and is buried, so one trip covers the trees, his museum, and the monasteries cut into the valley below. It is about two and a half hours from Beirut, which makes it a long day trip or an easy overnight one.

The Cedars of God and Bsharri at a glance

Stop

Time to allow

Good to know

Cedars of God grove

About 1 hour

Small entrance fee or donation; usually open from about 10:00 to 18:00

Gibran Museum, Bsharri

About 1 hour

Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 17:00

Qadisha Valley viewpoints

20 to 30 minutes

Along the road into Bsharri

Monastery of Qozhaya

About 1 hour

Reached by car on a steep road

Hike to Qannoubine

3 to 4 hours there and back

Best in spring and autumn

The road from Beirut to Bsharri

The usual route follows the coastal highway north to Chekka, then climbs inland through Amioun and the mountain villages to Hasroun and Bsharri, on the rim of the Qadisha Valley. Plan on two to two and a half hours to Bsharri with normal traffic, and another 15 minutes up to the Cedars, which are about 6 km past the town.

The last part is a winding mountain road. In winter, snow can close or slow it, so check the weather the day before. Our Beirut to the Cedars page has the drive in detail.

The Cedars of God

The grove is small enough to walk around in about an hour on a marked path between the trees. Some of the trees are huge and centuries old, and a small chapel stands among them. Entry has been listed both as a small fee in Lebanese pounds and as a donation, so carry small notes.

Visitor listings give opening hours of about 10:00 to 18:00. From around December to April snow covers the grove and access can be limited; the ski slopes are just above it. If you are coming for both, see our guide to skiing in Lebanon from Beirut.

Bsharri and the Gibran Museum

Gibran, author of The Prophet, was born in Bsharri in 1883, and the Gibran Museum stands in the old Mar Sarkis hermitage above the town, where he is buried. It holds the contents of his New York studio, including his furniture, library, and manuscripts, and 440 of his original paintings.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, and on Mondays that fall on a public holiday, according to its museum listing. The ticket is a few dollars, paid in Lebanese pounds.

The Qadisha Valley and its monasteries

Below Bsharri, the Qadisha Valley drops steeply to a river, with monasteries and hermit caves built into its walls. Some are easy to reach and some need a hike:

The Monastery of Saint Anthony of Qozhaya is the easiest by car, though the road down is steep.

Mar Lichaa (Saint Elisha) can be reached by car to a parking area, then a walk of about five minutes.

Our Lady of Qannoubine and Saint Marina are reached on foot, about an hour from Mar Lichaa along the valley floor.

The walk from Mar Lichaa to Qannoubine and back takes three to four hours and is mostly shaded beside the river. April to June and September to October are the best months; in winter, shaded parts of the trails can be icy. Dress modestly for the monasteries.

One day or two?

A day trip from Beirut works if you leave early and keep to the main sights:

7:30: leave Beirut.

10:00: Qadisha Valley viewpoints on the way into Bsharri.

10:30: the Gibran Museum.

12:00: the Cedars of God, then lunch in Bsharri or at the Cedars.

15:00: start back, to reach Beirut by early evening.

With two days, you can add the Qadisha hike or the Monastery of Qozhaya and stay the night in Bsharri or at the Cedars, where there are small hotels and guesthouses.

When to go

Late spring and early autumn are the best seasons for walking in the valley and around the grove. Summer is cooler than the coast and busier. In winter the area turns into a ski destination, with snow on the grove and the upper road. Bsharri is high in the mountains, so bring a warm layer even in summer evenings.

Getting there from Beirut

There is no direct bus. Without a car, the usual way is a bus from Beirut to Tripoli, then a shared taxi or minibus up to Bsharri, which is slow and depends on connections. Organised day tours also cover Bsharri, the Gibran Museum, and Qozhaya.

With a private driver, you go door to door and stop where you like on the way: the valley viewpoints, the museum, the grove. For a day trip or two days with an overnight stay, send the dates and your plan on WhatsApp, and we reply with a price per car, not per person.

Questions about the Cedars of God

How long is the drive from Beirut to Bsharri?

About two to two and a half hours with normal traffic, plus about 15 minutes up to the Cedars of God.

Is there an entrance fee for the Cedars of God?

A small fee or a donation, depending on the source. Bring small notes in Lebanese pounds or US dollars.

Can I visit the Cedars and Bsharri in one day from Beirut?

Yes, if you leave early and keep to the grove, the Gibran Museum, and the valley viewpoints. A hike or the monasteries need a second day.

Lebanon has six ski resorts, and the nearest are about an hour from Beirut. The season usually runs from mid-December to April, depending on snow, and in spring you can sometimes ski in the morning and be on the coast by the afternoon, according to the Wikipedia overview of skiing in Lebanon.

The start of the season depends on the weather. In 2025 to 2026 the first real snow came late: the Cedars opened at the end of December and Mzaar in the first days of January, as L’Orient Today reported. Check the resort’s own snow report before you plan a date.

Ski resorts in Lebanon at a glance

Resort

Where

From Beirut

Good to know

Mzaar Kfardebian

Kfardebian, above Faraya

About 1 to 1.5 hours

The largest resort, with three ski areas

The Cedars

Above Bsharri, in the north

About 2.5 to 3 hours

The highest slopes, from about 2,150 to 2,850 m

Faqra

Next to Mzaar

About 1 to 1.5 hours

A private club

Zaarour

Metn mountains

Around 1 hour

Small resort

Laqlouq

Mountains above Byblos

Around 1.5 hours

Small resort

Qanat Bakish

Metn mountains

Around 1 hour

Small resort

Drive times are for a clear road on a weekday. Snow, weekends, and Sunday-evening traffic back to Beirut can make them much longer.

Mzaar Kfardebian

Mzaar is the largest resort in Lebanon, with slopes stretching over about 40 km when most of it is open. It sits above the village of Faraya, which has chalets, rental shops, and restaurants, and it has three ski areas, with passes for one area or for all of them.

Day passes cost much more on weekends than on weekdays. A winter 2026 price list put an adult full-day pass at roughly $35 to $45 on weekdays and $50 to $70 on weekends, depending on the ski area, but listings for the same season disagree, so check the price at the resort or on its official channels.

Mzaar is about an hour from Beirut with a clear road. Our Beirut to Faraya taxi page covers the drive in detail.

The Cedars

The Cedars ski area is the oldest in Lebanon and the highest, between about 2,150 and 2,850 metres, and its season can start in November and last into late April. It is also far: about 130 km from Beirut, through Bsharri and the Qadisha Valley. A day trip is possible but long, so many visitors stay the night in Bsharri or at the Cedars.

A day ticket has been listed at around $40 for adults, though the listing does not say which season it is from. The cedar grove itself, the Cedars of God, is a few minutes from the slopes. See our Beirut to the Cedars page for the road and the drive time.

Winter roads to the slopes

The mountain roads are the hardest part of a ski day in Lebanon. After heavy snow, the Traffic Management Center announces closed roads and roads open only to four-wheel-drive cars or cars with chains, and some routes past the resorts, such as Faraya to Mayrouba, have been blocked by snow in past winters.

Check the snow and road news the evening before and again in the morning.

Leave Beirut early: the road up fills by mid-morning on weekends.

On Sundays, coming back down in the late afternoon can take several hours. Leaving the slopes early, or staying until after dark, helps.

If you drive yourself, carry chains and know how to fit them.

Getting to the slopes from Beirut

There is no public bus to the ski resorts, so the choice is between driving, a shared shuttle, or a private driver.

Driving yourself works if you have a car fit for snow and chains.

Shared ski shuttles run from Beirut to Mzaar in the season and are the cheapest option if you are alone.

A private driver takes you from your door, with room for skis, boards, and bags. A minivan fits up to 7 people, which suits a family or group, and the driver can take you straight from Beirut airport to your chalet. Send the date, the resort, and how many people and skis on WhatsApp, and ask about the road and the car when you book. We reply with a price per car, not per person.

Skiing and the sea on the same day

In March and April, when the snow is still good higher up and the coast is warm, some visitors ski at Mzaar in the morning and spend the afternoon by the sea in Jounieh or Byblos, about an hour below. It needs a clear road and an early start. Our day trip guide to Jeita, Harissa and Byblos covers the coast.

Practical tips

Ski on a weekday if you can: passes cost less and the slopes and roads are quieter.

Bring cash in US dollars for passes, rentals, and food.

Rent skis and boots in Faraya or at the resort the morning you ski, or the evening before.

Wear sunscreen and sunglasses: the sun is strong at this altitude even in January.

Questions about skiing in Lebanon

When is the ski season in Lebanon?

Usually from mid-December to April. The exact dates depend on snowfall, and some winters start late.

How far is Mzaar from Beirut?

About an hour by car with a clear road. On weekend mornings and Sunday evenings it can take much longer.

Do I need chains to drive to the ski resorts?

After heavy snow, some mountain roads are open only to four-wheel-drive cars or cars with chains. Check road news before you leave.

ظهرت المقالة A Day Trip from Beirut to Jeita Grotto, Harissa and Byblos أولاً على William Transfer.

Jeita Grotto, the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, and the old town of Byblos all sit within 40 km of Beirut, along the coast and the hills just above it. Tour companies sell the three together as one day trip from Beirut: caves in the morning, the view over the Bay of Jounieh at midday, and Byblos harbour by late afternoon.

The order matters, because each place opens at a different time and two of them close on Mondays.

The day trip from Beirut at a glance

Stop

Time to allow

Closed

Ticket (check before you go)

Jeita Grotto

1.5 to 2 hours

Mondays

Roughly $15 to $20 per adult

Harissa and the cable car

1 to 1.5 hours

Cable car closed Mondays and in high winds

Cable car about $12 return for visitors

Byblos

2 to 3 hours

Open daily

Archaeological site roughly $8 to $12

Ticket prices for Jeita and the Byblos site differ between sources, and prices in Lebanon change often, so bring cash in US dollars and check the price at the gate.

A suggested order for the day

8:30: leave Beirut, before the morning traffic on the coastal highway builds up.

9:15: Jeita Grotto, when it opens and before tour groups arrive.

11:30: drive to Jounieh for the cable car up to Harissa, which starts at 11:00, or drive straight up to the shrine.

13:30: lunch in Jounieh or on the way north.

15:00: Byblos: the archaeological site and castle, then the old souk.

18:00: the harbour at sunset, dinner if you want it, and the drive back to Beirut.

Do not plan this trip for a Monday: Jeita Grotto and the cable car are both closed. Saturdays and Sundays are busier at every stop, and the road back to Beirut is slow on summer weekend evenings.

Jeita Grotto

Jeita is a system of limestone caves in the Nahr al-Kalb valley, about 20 km north-east of Beirut. The upper gallery is a walk along a path between stalactites and stalagmites; the lower gallery is seen by boat on an underground river. The lower gallery closes in winter, when the water is too high, so from about December to spring you will usually see only the upper part.

The grotto is closed on Mondays, and opening hours are shorter in winter. The grotto posts its current days and any closures on its official Instagram. Allow an hour and a half to two hours, including the short cable car and train rides inside the site.

Harissa and Our Lady of Lebanon

The white statue of Our Lady of Lebanon stands on a hill above Jounieh, with a view over the whole bay. It is a working pilgrimage site, so dress modestly and expect crowds on Sundays and religious holidays.

Many visitors go up by the téléférique, a cable car that climbs from the seaside road in Jounieh to the top in about ten minutes. According to its official site, it runs Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00, closes on Mondays, and stops when high winds are forecast. The 2026 visitor price, reported by Beirut.com, is 1,100,000 Lebanese pounds return (about $12), and children under 8 ride free.

If the cable car is closed, or you would rather not ride it, the shrine is also reached by road. With a private car, the driver can drop you at the lower station in Jounieh and meet you at the top.

Byblos (Jbeil)

Byblos is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the world and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. One ticket covers the archaeological site and the Crusader castle, which has the best view over the ruins and the sea.

After the site, walk through the old souk, a few lanes of shops and cafés right next to the castle, then down to the small fishing harbour. Byblos is about 40 km from Beirut, so it is the natural last stop: you finish by the sea and drive straight back.

If you want more time in Byblos alone, our Beirut to Byblos taxi page covers the drive and the sights in more detail.

Getting around: car, tour, or bus

The three stops are close to each other but not on one public transport line, which is why most people do this trip by car.

By private driver: one car for the whole day, which waits while you visit and takes you to the next stop. Tell us the date and the three stops on WhatsApp and we reply with a price for the day, per car, not per person. A minivan fits up to 7 people. See also our Jeita Grotto and Harissa page.

On a group tour: several companies sell this exact route as a shared day tour of about eight hours. It is cheaper for one person, but you follow the group’s timing.

By bus: buses and vans to Byblos leave from Charles Helou station in Beirut for a few dollars. Jeita and Harissa are harder to reach this way, and you would need taxis between stops.

Practical tips

Bring cash in small US dollar notes for tickets, parking, and lunch.

Wear shoes with grip for Jeita: the paths inside are damp.

Cover shoulders and knees for the shrine in Harissa.

In winter, check the weather the day before: the lower grotto may be closed and the cable car stops in strong wind.

If you land the same day, start with Byblos in the afternoon and keep Jeita and Harissa for another morning.

Questions about this trip

Can you see Jeita Grotto, Harissa and Byblos in one day?

Yes. With a car, the three stops take about eight to nine hours from Beirut and back, including lunch.

Which day is best for the trip?

Any day except Monday, when Jeita Grotto and the Harissa cable car are closed. Weekdays are quieter than weekends.

Is the boat ride at Jeita open all year?

No. The lower gallery, seen by boat, closes in winter when the water is high. The upper gallery stays open for most of the year.

Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport is about 10 km south of downtown Beirut. With no traffic, the drive from Beirut airport to city center takes 15 to 20 minutes, and longer at rush hour. How you make the trip depends on when you land, how much luggage you have, and where you are going next.

Taxis in Lebanon quote in US dollars, so all prices here are in dollars.

Beirut airport to city center at a glance

Option

Cost to central Beirut

Good for

Watch out for

Official airport taxi

$18 by day, $22 at night

Arriving without a booking

Confirm the fare before you leave

Uber or another ride app

Varies with demand

Light luggage and working mobile data

Pickup point may be in the parking area

Shared van and service taxi

A few dollars

Backpackers with one small bag

No stop at arrivals, hard at night

Rental car

Daily rental rate

Travelers driving around Lebanon

Beirut traffic and parking

Pre-booked private driver

Agreed before you land

Late flights, families, onward trips

Needs booking in advance

Official airport taxis: the fixed fares

In 2026 the Ministry of Public Works and Transport published fixed fares for taxis leaving the airport, reported in June 2026 by Beirut.com. Day rates apply from 6:00 to 22:00 and night rates from 22:00 to 6:00.

From the airport to

Day fare

Night fare

Beirut and suburbs

$18

$22

Jounieh

$27

$31

Broumana

$27

$31

Byblos (Jbeil)

$43

$47

Sidon (Saida)

$49

$54

Tripoli

$80

$87

Waiting time is charged at $4 an hour, and the price can change if you add stops or change the route. Before you get in, tell the driver your exact address and agree on the fare in dollars. If something goes wrong, the tourism police take complaints on +961 1 629 493.

For one or two people going straight to a hotel in Beirut, the official taxi is usually the simplest choice. Expect a queue when several flights land together.

Uber and other ride apps

Uber works in Beirut, but airport pickups do not happen at the arrivals door. Uber’s own guidance for Beirut airport is to request the ride after you have your bags and to walk to the pickup point the app shows, which may not be the nearest exit. Travel guides from 2026 place that point in the parking area.

You need mobile data to book and to find your driver. The airport has Wi-Fi, and the two local networks, Touch and Alfa, have counters in the arrivals hall, though travelers report they are not always open for late-night flights. Pickup rules for ride apps at the airport have changed several times over the years, so follow the pin in the app rather than an old blog post.

Shared vans and public transport

There is no airport bus that stops at the terminal. Shared minivans run toward Cola and Dora on the roads near the airport, and from there shared “service” taxis and city buses continue into Beirut. It is by far the cheapest option, often a dollar or two in total, but the vans leave when they are full, routes are not posted, and travelers report that they no longer stop at the arrivals gate.

It suits a traveler with a backpack who lands in daylight. With suitcases, children, or a late flight, it is not practical.

Renting a car at the airport

Rental companies have desks at the airport, and a car makes sense if you plan to drive around Lebanon on your own. For the first trip into the city it is less useful: traffic in Beirut is heavy, lanes are loosely followed, and parking near hotels in Hamra, Achrafieh, or downtown is hard to find. Many visitors pick up a rental car a day or two later, once they are settled.

A private driver waiting at arrivals

With a pre-booked driver, the price is agreed before you fly and the driver waits for you at the arrivals gate. That is our service at William Transfer: you send your flight details and destination on WhatsApp, we reply with a price per car, not per person, and the car is there when you come out. See the Beirut airport taxi page for how booking works.

If you are one person going to central Beirut, compare our quote with the official $18 fare. A private driver is most useful when:

your flight lands late at night and you do not want to queue or negotiate;

you are traveling as a family or group and need a minivan (up to 7 passengers) or a child seat;

you are going straight on to another town, such as Byblos, Batroun, or the ski slopes at Faraya;

you are continuing to Damascus, which needs a driver used to the border (see our Lebanon to Syria guide).

How long the drive takes from the airport

Destination

Usual drive time

Downtown, Hamra, Achrafieh

15 to 30 minutes

Jounieh

30 to 45 minutes

Byblos

About 1 hour

Batroun

1 to 1.5 hours

Faraya and Mzaar

1 to 1.5 hours

Tripoli

About 1.5 hours or more

These are times without heavy traffic. Weekday rush hours and summer weekends on the coastal highway make every one of them longer.

Before you leave the arrivals hall

Bring some cash in small US dollar notes. Dollars are widely accepted, and a driver may not have change for a $100 note.

Save your hotel address and its map pin on your phone, since many streets in Beirut are known by landmarks rather than numbers.

If you need a local SIM card, buy it at the Touch or Alfa counter if it is open, or in town the next day.

Do not get into a car that approaches you with an offer. Use the official taxi, your app, or the driver you booked.

Questions travelers ask

How much is a taxi from Beirut airport to the city center?

The official fare to Beirut and its suburbs is $18 between 6:00 and 22:00 and $22 at night, according to the fare list published in 2026. Agree the price before the ride starts.

Can I take Uber from Beirut airport?

Yes. Request the ride once you have your bags and walk to the pickup point shown in the app, which may be in the parking area rather than at the arrivals exit.

Is there a bus from Beirut airport to the city?

Not from the terminal. Shared vans run on the roads nearby, but they are hard to use with luggage or at night.

Where will a pre-booked driver meet me?

With William Transfer, the driver waits for you at the arrivals gate. Send your flight details on WhatsApp and we reply with the price.

Introduction: From Arrival in Lebanon to a Smooth Journey into Syria

You’ve just landed in Lebanon. Maybe it’s late in the evening at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, or perhaps you’re relaxing in a hotel in Hamra or Downtown Beirut after a long flight. Your next destination is Syria — Damascus in particular — but one question keeps coming to mind: how do I get there safely, comfortably, and without stress?

Public buses feel uncertain. Shared taxis sound confusing. Border crossings raise questions. You want a solution that is reliable, private, and handled by professionals who understand the route, the border, and your needs as a traveler.

That’s exactly where a taxi from Lebanon to Syria becomes the smartest choice.

Our service specializes in private driver from Lebanon to Syria, with a strong focus on the most in-demand route: the Beirut to Damascus taxi. Whether you’re traveling for family reasons, business, medical visits, or tourism, we offer a Lebanon to Syria private transfer that removes the uncertainty and replaces it with peace of mind.

From Beirut city or Beirut Airport (BEY) directly to Damascus, you’ll enjoy door-to-door service, experienced drivers, and assistance throughout the journey — including at the border — all in a comfortable, licensed vehicle.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know: why a private taxi is the best option, what the journey looks like, how much it costs, and how to book your transfer with confidence.

Why Choose a Private Taxi from Lebanon to Syria?

Traveling between Lebanon and Syria is very different from moving within one country. The distance is short, but the logistics matter. Choosing a private driver from Lebanon to Syria offers advantages that buses, shared vans, or informal rides simply cannot match.

1. Safety Comes First

Safety is the number one concern for travelers crossing borders. With a Lebanon to Syria private transfer, you’re not relying on unknown drivers or crowded shared transport.

Licensed, professional drivers with experience on the Beirut–Damascus route

Vehicles maintained to high safety standards

No unnecessary stops or passenger changes

Calm, controlled driving style suitable for long-distance travel

This level of safety is especially important for families, solo travelers, and elderly passengers.

2. Door-to-Door Convenience

Unlike buses that depart from fixed stations, a taxi from Lebanon to Syria picks you up exactly where you are:

Hotel in Beirut

Private home or apartment

Beirut Airport arrivals hall

And drops you off exactly where you need to be in Syria, whether that’s a hotel, residence, hospital, or office in Damascus.

No transfers. No dragging luggage through terminals. No confusion.

3. Flexible Departure Times

Your schedule matters. With a Beirut to Damascus taxi, you choose the departure time that works best for you.

Early morning departures to avoid border queues

Late-night or early-morning airport pickups

Same-day bookings when available

This flexibility is simply not possible with buses or shared transportation.

4. Border Assistance and Local Knowledge

The Lebanon–Syria border crossing can feel intimidating if it’s your first time. Our drivers:

Know which border crossings are typically fastest

Explain the process clearly and calmly

Guide you step by step through checkpoints

Help with luggage handling at the border

While drivers do not provide legal advice, their experience can make a huge difference in reducing stress.

5. Language and Communication

Our drivers speak Arabic and English, making communication easy for both regional and international travelers. If you have questions during the journey or need help coordinating arrival details in Damascus, clear communication is always available.
